Introducing Knit, Pray, Share by Lisa Hennessy

I’ve had the recent pleasure of getting acquainted with a lovely knitting gift book called Knit, Pray, Share by Lisa Hennessy. The full-color project book contains more than 50 knitting patterns geared toward beginning knitters, but also appropriate for anyone who enjoys the craft (because who doesn’t love uncomplicated “project therapy” between those more challenging knits?).

Knit Pray Share

If you know me well, you’re aware of my crazy passion for all things yarn, fiber, and knitting. Unfortunately, I live in a warm, tropical climate, which excludes wearing about ninety-five percent of the garments I love to knit. As I result, I’ve received much gratification in making hand-knit items for others.

Thus, the purpose of Lisa Hennessy’s book hit close to home for me. Knitting has been a source of healing for me in dark times and a companion activity to meditation and prayer. The focused, repetitive movements of the craft help me to block out distractions and connect more closely with my wellspring of life, Jesus Christ. I’ve even written a series of devotionals inspired by my encounters with God through knitting. I hope to publish them one day soon. Perhaps that’s why Knit, Pray, Share captured my interest.

Whenever I have knitted something for someone else—a dear friend, a cancer patient, a newborn baby—I’ve taken advantage of those hours to center myself on purposeful prayer for the life of the recipient. And that’s exactly what Knit, Pray, Share is designed to help you do—to bless others with your knitting craft.

What’s Inside Knit, Pray, Share?

All the patterns are well written with full, clear instructions and lots of beautiful color photographs. The projects, which are quick and easy, but still fun and creatively designed, don’t require expensive materials. They include hats, headbands, scarves, shawls, socks, blankets, as well as many unique things too, like a chemo do-rag, felted projects, loom knitting patterns, baby gifts, and items for pets.  A “red thread” theme is woven into every design signifying the precious blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for our salvation. Each project also includes a Bible verse and a suggested prayer for the person who will receive your handmade gift, as well as gift tag ideas.

Thanks to YouTube and Google, my knitting library is small but contains a collection of treasured resources that I refer to regularly. Lisa Hennessy’s book has now joined the shelf. Knit, Pray, Share is a thoughtful and useful gift any Christian knitter is sure to return to again and again.
